The Teacher Librarian’s main role is to ensure the operations of the Libraries provide efficient and relevant services to successfully support the learning programmes of the school.
The position requires the person to work across all Year levels and in close consultation with the Co-Principals, the ECE & Primary Coordinators, Team leaders and staff.
The Role requires the person to:
Advance the school’s philosophies and educational aims
Have a sound understanding of library information management system
Have a working knowledge of the national curriculum for England, early years foundation stage and the YCIS Chinese curriculum
Have high level interpersonal skills and to use these effectively
Have the ability to communicate (oral and written) effectively and concisely
Have the ability to engage others in achieving exemplary standards throughout the school
Be able to make practical and informed decisions based on evidence and experience
Be enthusiastic, energetic and visible around the school
Be able to self-manage, use initiative, plan and adhere to timelines
Accept and follow directions from the co-principals
Be committed to the role
Duties:
Utilize and develop the Library Information Management system for the cataloguing and processing of
library resources
Supervise, direct and provide training for the Chinese library staff
Implement and further develop for students: the library skills programme; research skills; information
literacy programme; library orientation
Implement and develop library policies, guidelines and procedures (eg: behavior expectations of students when using the library) to ensure the libraries operate efficiently and effectively
Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues: co-teachers; specialist teachers; nonacademic staff
In collaboration with class co-teachers, plan and present lessons related to Year Level learning programmes
Develop the library resources to meet the needs of the student’s learning programmes and the professional needs of teachers
Use knowledge of the relevant aspects of the YCIS Curriculum, with programme planning and operational aspects of the libraries
Provide reference service and guidance to students and teachers in using library resources
Promote with staff and students: the importance reading; the need to be ‘enquirers’; to value the library resources
Manage, monitor and prepare the library budget
Identify and contribute with ways to improve the library services
Other duties as may be assigned by Co-principals
Perform other duties as may be required by the Co-Principal
Qualification & Requirements:
• B.Ed., or bachelor’s degree in related subjects plus a teaching certificate (PGCE & QTS & Country or State teaching licensure etc.)
• Fluent in English, teaching will be conducted in English
• At least 2 years of relevant full-time teaching experience as a qualified teacher
• A level or IBDP, IGCSE experience is highly preferred
Starting Salary Range
Annual Income Package Before IIT: 360,000 – 620,000 RMB/year, including base salary and contract-end gratuity. The base salary is determined by the teacher’s work experience and qualifications.
