Job Summary
The Early Years Class Teacher at Harrow Beijing is responsible for fostering a positive learning environment for children aged 2-5. This role involves implementing the curriculum, monitoring student progress, and engaging with parents and the wider school community. The teacher will uphold the school’s values and standards, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
Key Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
- Actively promote and develop the curriculum and values of Harrow Beijing Early Years.
- Lead by example, adhering to the standards expected by Harrow Beijing Early Years (HBJEY) and Asia International School Limited (AISL).
- Establish and maintain good relations with parents, ensuring open communication.
- Participate in all major school events and community activities, including parent events and excursions.
- Support the academic, social, and emotional progress of students.
- Proactively monitor the safety and well-being of children during assigned duties.
- Collaborate with colleagues on planning, assessment, and school activities.
- Provide a stimulating learning environment, including selecting and rotating curriculum materials and creating engaging classroom displays.
- Communicate significant developments concerning students to the Head of Early Years and Year Group Leads.
- Inform parents of any incidents or behavioral concerns in a sensitive and timely manner.
Curriculum Development
- Plan, prepare, and document lesson reflections regularly, ensuring students meet curriculum targets.
- Track individual student progress based on continually updated data.
- Stay informed of curriculum developments through training and peer observations.
- Cater to the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Maintain high-quality and regular communication with parents regarding their child’s progress.
Behavior Management
- Adjust behavior management strategies to enhance student learning and behavior.
- Establish routines and expectations that promote positive participation in all school activities.
- Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being, supporting positive behavior practices.
Classroom Environment
- Ensure the classroom environment supports positive behavior and learning.
- Develop and utilize classroom materials effectively to enhance student engagement.
Extra-Curricular Activities
- Supervise and coach students in after-school activities and programs.
- Organize logistics for these activities, including transport and accommodation.
Personal Development
- Participate in annual performance reviews and school-wide professional development initiatives.
- Seek opportunities for further training and qualifications.
- Collaborate with line managers on professional development and career paths.
Collaboration
- Attend meetings to share information necessary for the successful delivery of school programs.
- Mentor new teachers and collaborate with colleagues for planning and moderation.
- Supervise classes on behalf of colleagues as needed.
Safeguarding
- Uphold the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, working collaboratively to identify and support at-risk students.
Relationships
- Internal: Collaborate with the School Leadership Team, class teachers, support teachers, specialist teachers, administration team, and students.
- External: Engage with parents to enhance student support and community involvement.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a qualified teacher.
- Experience teaching across the age range of 2-5 years.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children and families.
- Understanding of child development and effective behavior management techniques.
- Knowledge of curriculum developments and assessment methods to improve student performance.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Teaching experience in an international school setting.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students of varying abilities.
- Proven track record of improving standards through high-quality teaching.
- Experience in leading and organizing extra-curricular activities.
Qualifications
- Degree in Education, QTS/PGCE, or equivalent.
- A subject specialism and proven ability to challenge able students.
