Purpose of Job
• Responsible for maximising the academic progress of the students they teach by delivering the very highest standards of teaching and learning.

Duties and Responsibilities
Overall Responsibilities
• Promote high standards in all aspects of school life, particularly in student progress.
• Actively support the vision, culture, and policies of the school.
• Inspire and motivate students, teachers, and other school employees.
• Comply with the professional duties of the Harrow staff Code of Conduct.
• Contribute to a school culture that is positive, purposeful, and professional.
• Engage positively in the school appraisal process and performance management arrangements.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Teaching and Learning
• Plan, prepare, and deliver well-structured lessons appropriate to the abilities of all students, maximising their learning progress.
• Promote high standards in the use of English as the common language to ensure strong academic progress.
• Assess, record, and monitor student progress according to Department/Faculty guidelines, providing accurate information to parents as necessary.
• Develop, maintain, and share materials and resources to achieve excellent learning outcomes.
• Provide students with regular, high-quality feedback to support rapid progress and identify areas for development.
• Ensure the classroom is a stimulating environment that facilitates learning.
• Generate enthusiasm for the subject and inspire students to work to their potential.
• Liaise with the Head of Department, tutor, and other staff regarding students with special educational needs or pastoral difficulties.
• Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a proactive approach to study and building productive relationships with students.
• Set home learning tasks according to policy and tailored to the student’s ability and workload.
• Provide accurate and constructive information to parents during Parents’ Evenings, in subject reports, and other communications.
• Participate proactively in the annual cycle of subject monitoring, review, and improvement planning.

• Respect the needs of colleagues and the school regarding cooperation, collegiality, deadlines, and team cohesion.
• Participate positively in meetings and contribute to the effective running of the school.
• Promote professional dialogue, share ideas about teaching, and support other teachers in developing good practices.

• Take an active interest in maintaining subject knowledge and current educational research.
• Contribute to school developments and implement agreed policies and initiatives.

• Proactively maintain and develop IT capability in line with the Digital Learning Strategy.
Other Responsibilities
• Undertake reasonable duties as requested by the Senior Leadership Team or the Head Master/Mistress for the effective operation of the school.
Personal Specification
Education, Training, and Qualifications
• Appropriate degree with UK PGCE or another teaching qualification giving QTS.
• Working knowledge of the National Curriculum of England, including EYFS, KS1, KS2, KS3, IGCSE/GCSE, and A Levels, as appropriate.
• Experience of teaching relevant phases.
• Evidence of relevant and challenging continuing professional development.
Knowledge and Experience
• Minimum of two years’ teaching experience.
• Awareness of and up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding policies and practices.
• Knowledge of using ICT effectively to promote student learning.
• Consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
• Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.

Education is an ever-changing service, and all staff are expected to adopt a flexible approach to work. Duties may be amended following discussions with line managers and reviewed annually during appraisal.
