Job Title: Whole School Director of Physical Education & Sport

Reports to: Assistant Head (Safeguarding & Pupil Safety)
Job Purpose:
The Director of Physical Education & Sport leads the development of a vibrant sports community across all school phases, aligning with the school’s core strategic values. This role involves fostering sporting excellence, promoting student participation in physical activities for enjoyment, health, and lifelong engagement, and overseeing staff coordination, facilities, and broader physical education programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategies for both sporting excellence and inclusive participation.
- Work closely with PE staff to ensure a cohesive approach to staffing and programs.
- Lead coordination for external sports events such as FOBISIA, ACAMIS, and ISAAC.
- Oversee the organization of sports fixtures and ensure proper staffing.
- Teaching & Engagement:
- Maintain a teaching load within the PE department.
- Engage in the school’s extracurricular sports program, including after-school and weekend activities.
- Support the development of talented students to reach their potential.
- Team Management:
- Line manage internal and external sports coaches.
- Ensure quality coaching and adherence to health and safety standards.
- Manage the school’s sports administration and coordinate staff training, including safeguarding and first aid.
- Program Coordination:
- Develop comprehensive inter-house competitions and ensure a robust fixture list.
- Provide sporting opportunities for boarding students.
- Promote leadership opportunities within the sports program.
- Communication & Safety:
- Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders, including parents and external organizations.
- Manage risk assessments and safety protocols for sports activities.
- Foster partnerships with local, regional, and international bodies to enhance the school’s sporting reputation.
- Development & Budgeting:
- Plan for future staffing and facilities needs.
- Lead policy development in areas such as health and safety, program delivery, and quality assurance for external staff.
- Oversee budgeting and expenditure related to sports programs and facilities.
- Community Engagement:
- Maintain partnerships with the broader community and promote the school through sports achievements.
- Manage communication with parents and contribute to the broader school strategy.
Key Relationships:
- Internal: PE and Sports staff, senior leadership, operations, HR, and finance departments.
- External: Parents, sports governing bodies, and external sports providers.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status with relevant in-service training.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of teaching experience, preferably in an international school, with leadership experience in curriculum or pastoral matters.
- Skills: Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage teams and lead strategic development in sports.
